You are basically correct. When I go to Giant MD's website, it shows that I've earned $3 off per gallon -- seemingly combining my Giant & S&S points -- but below that only lists my Giant MD points (and their expiration). Not sure why the store receipt shows a combined total. Of course, I don't really care about the weirdness of this accounting, as long as combining the points still works.
