Is it a hypothetical statement or speaking from experience? The US issues visas for entry only, and upon entry travellers are typically given 6 months of stay in B1/2 status. The worst that can happen at a port of entry is refusal and a temporary detention until the next flight back. Now, when you exit the country, there is no outbound immigration control, so even if you overstay, nobody is going to detain you. If you overstay a little bit, you may or may not get a 3-year ban when you try to get a new visa or enter the US next time. So, yeah... Russia is much worse.
