Some airlines, such as American, only offer one way awards, with no stopovers exceeding, at most, 18 hours (you can secure a round trip, but it’s really two one way awards). Others offer round trips. And on some airlines you can put awards on hold - AA uses five days - giving time allowing your credit card instruments to transfer.
Other cards essentially give you credits redeemable toward travel.
