I believe IAH-AMS is sustained due to the large oil & gas market between the 2 cities.
I think UA should get some credit for attempting to build so much traffic to a non-A* hub. I think once SFO-AMS starts, AMS would see the most flights to a non-A* EU hub from UA, after LHR (even more than CDG, but may have more seats due to larger aircrafts).
