I’m not sure I would ever take this kind of scenario as any sort of reliable / useful indicator.
Once GA’s make an announcement (as many so often do) along the lines of .....
we’re now ready to board Groups 1 to 3 .... OR
.... we invite passengers in Group 1 to board, followed almost instantly by a call for the other Groups ....... it’s little surprise that almost everybody suddenly places themselves in the ‘priority’ groups ..... whether justifiably or not
