You assumed wrongly. It's been discussed endlessly on this forum in every thread on the subject of Choice Benefits. The T&Cs are very clear about this and it's explained and you confirm it on the web site when you choose that the nights apply to the qualifying year. It's quite possible for someone to make their choice for 2018 in early 2019 and need it to count for 2018 if they end the year on either 70-74 nights or 95-99 nights and that's what it caters for. These people will disagree with you.
