Not sure why this has been suggested. Plat is now equivalent to old Marriott Gold and old Gold got lounge access.
The word is that part of the reasoning behind the change to new names is to ensure Titanium get priority over Platinum for upgrades. Although honestly under the old Marriott system upgrades seemed pretty random for Golds vs. Plats.
