Cancellation penalties are only for the first night of a stay. Just go there; check-in; then after the first night tell them you are leaving a day early. I do that all the time because my work plans change a lot or because I don't like the property.
You must tell them you're checking out 1 day earlier during check in. I have done this for the exact same reason, rate change.
If you tell them after the first night, they can impose $50 early departure penalty, not always depends on front desk.
