Gold elites are ineligible for suite upgrades under the terms and conditions of Marriott's post-August unified loyalty program. Of course, a property could still do it, but you should probably book the room you want instead of expecting an upgrade.

Marriott has all kinds of packages, including gay pride packages but they are in no way limited. Anyone can book them.
