Southwest Airlines' highly anticipated plans to launch flights to Hawaii have been put on hold — at least temporarily — because of the partial shutdown of the federal government.
The carrier confirmed to SFGate Monday morning the Federal Aviation Administration employees working on certifying the airline to operate flights overwater have been furloughed, and that's put an unexpected stop to the process.
