I was under the distinct impression that one could not earn AA miles on Qatar since Canada is omitted from the list of countries, while Canada is listed for Cathay and British. (Finnair also omits Canada FWIW) Called EXP desk, who escalated to service desk, and AA Customer Service who escalated to supervisor, and both said that as far as they are concerned one cannot earn mileage, as per the website. Has anyone flown from Canada with QR and earned AA miles?
Again, this is 100% incorrect, most reservations agents and even EXP agents and supervisors will have zero clue about the in's and out's of AA earning on partners and such, all they are doing is just reading aa.com at the same time (probably for the first time) and trying to make an on-the-fly call.
If there were any QR flights that were specifically excluded from AA earning, they would be listed under an "Exceptions" area on the same page at aa.com. For example, if you click on the LATAM or Finnair pages at aa.com, you will the "Exceptions" area that specifically calls out flights to/from Cuba as being ineligible for mileage accrual. These aa.com pages have been set up this way for years.
