Perhaps not all flights have the availability for 2 passengers. If you can create the booking on aa.com put it on hold without purchasing then call AA and ask them to add a second person.
It won't price up with AA codes on the BA flights INV-LHR so can't place it on hold unfortunately. Managed to get it in the end, BookWithMatrix does pass through 2 PAX and let me click on the pull down menu to change from The Flight Network to select American Airlines. That put it through as 2 PAX and all booked ^
