I could be wrong, but I don't think most mistake fares make it to mainstream media. Given the data breach, I'd think there might be a little more pressure to honour the tickets as to avoid negative PR.
That being said, I agree with your points & would be very surprised if they honour the fare.
Most global markets were closed, so slow financial news day. Cathay with the data breach, their history of fuel hedging with current oil prices, mainland carrier competition, flag carrier of major financial hub, etc make them in focus. If a large number of premium class inventory on prime routes has been filled at low cost, that could be material on financials.
