My German credit score is very good and as I'm still a German resident I should be able to get such a card without major issues I think.
Despite the 2% transaction fee I'd probably use the card as my major one in the states if that helps.
Obviously I will call them regarding that as well but I'd be interested in people who actually have some experience with this stuff.
I did this when moving to Germany - I got a UK Plat charge card, then six months later successfully applied for the same card in Germany.
