OK, but the new airport is in an unloved region i've (admittedly) never set foot in. I assumed the new road system north of the city will cope better than the existing congested links to the current airport. My understanding from friends who've been using ISL for Ankara flights is the current public transport route is metro to Sisli then an airport bus. Doesn't sound much fun, but neither is my route by metro through the Yenikapi hub to IST.

Of course things would be/will be better if the new metro line were up and running (better still if ISL were also up and running ), but probably better not to wait for the metro to catch up before opening the darn thing. There again, who knows - the metro might get there first ....
