CZ - Short stopover in SYX (Sanya)?

Looking to book a return trip from LON-MNL next month and China Southern have come up cheapest. Flown with them before (to Hanoi) and thought they were OK and the overnight in CAN (using TWOV) was quite straightforward once I found the immigration desks.

However the forthcoming flights also involve a short stopover in Sanya and I am wondering what this involves? I suspect I will have to exit the aircraft but will I also need to collect baggage, go through immigration then only to come straight back through again? If it's anything like what I experienced in Xiamen (when most of the passengers didn't have paper copies of their flight tickets and chaos descended on the single immigration agent working at 1am in the morning), I will pay extra money and fly with Royal Brunei instead.
