Delta policy currently is to check bags through even on separate tickets, including some partner airlines or certain award tickets involving partners. AFAIK KE isn't included on the separate revenue tickets list yet, but with the stronger partnership and JV, I would expect this to happen soon. MU was recently added to the list.
