Sure!! I’ve been lucky to clear at booking a couple times. But I’ve always been cleared from the waitlist at least 2-3 days in advance of the flight as well.
This has been my experience as well. LAX, DFW and ORD to/from PVG, PEK and HKG. Granted, few of the SWUs confirmed at booking, but I've never flown in Y on those combinations.
