Probably, I was on with the Japan line [India I think] last night to snag a JAL booking on a multipartner award and was being told that Avios couldn't be used for round the world trips - obviously complete nonsense. Had I been more awake, I would have pointed out that this was indeed the most direct way of reaching each of the destinations desired. Fortunately the the desired seats were still available this morning, and the Gold line sorted everything promptly.
