I think you only get the monetary compensation when the downgrade happens last minute due to an aircraft chsnge, after check in opens. It's happened to me twice 4-6 weeks in advance, including once on a revenue ticket, and the best they've offered me is a refund of the miles (on the reward booking), free cancellation, or re-booking to a different flight with F available (which wasn't possible as all flights within a 2 day window that I could make didn't have F service)
