Do you have to clear US immigration as a family? (2 US citizens, 1 GC)

I'm a US citizen (Global Entry!). The spouse is a green card holder who always consistently fails APC. Our very fussy infant is a US citizen (non GE).

I've heard that at SFO, permanent residents are asked to use the visitor line (I could be wrong, I don't pay attention because Global Entry) - which I've witnessed to be shockingly long.

I know I cannot take my child through GE.

1. Do the 3 of us need to clear in the visitor line? (yuck)
2. Could the 3 of us use the US line?
3. Can we do 2 US? 1 visitor?
