I store my long legs under the seat in front of me. And if there is enough space for it and I travel with a rollaboard, my smaller personal item goes there as well. But if I travel with a larger backpack as my carry on that would fill most of the space under the seat, it generally goes in the bin. If the overhead police disapproves, I can switch to a rollaboard for my next trip.
