It started off that way. 747 MEL-AKL-LAX. Then they dropped the 747 from the MEL-AKL leg, using 737 trans tasmen and 747 trans pac (they would rotate the 747 between AU and NZ via LA). After a year or so of that, they changed to 737 MEL-AKL/A330 AKL-LAX on QF25/26.
After they pulled out of the AKL-LAX route, they returned 747 back to JFK.
They now use the former MEL-AKL-LAX flight numbers for SYD-HND and the former SYD-LAX-JFK numbers for SYD-PEK.
