There has been a single weekly 747 on QF11/12 SYD-LAX, but that is going back to daily A380 with DFW dropping back down to 6 weekly. With these changes, the only 747s going to the US will be the 3 weekly BNE-LAX (until Dec), SYD-SFO and an upgrade on HNL QF3/4 to 747 (and the seasonal SYD-YVR).

By the end of the year, the only QF US mainland route to have a 747 will be QF73/74 to SFO.
After 787s 7 and 8 arrive in November, the next 6 confirmed 787s won't arrive until late 2019. Without a change to the HKG 787 flying, SYD-SFO won't change off 747 before then.
Okay, trying to wade through that WEALTH of information at 3am (thanks for posting it!), it seems like:
--SYD-SFO QF73 in October is a sure bet... except that it doesn't fly on Tuesdays.
--QF11 on Oct 22 seems like, from your post, it would probably still be the scheduled 747 at that time, since no additional 789s will have arrived by then?
--My preference would be via LAX, since that flight does operate on Tuesdays, and wouldn't cut my vacation a day short.
---But I gotta get that Kangaroo'd 747 in my logbook, so if I need to travel a day earlier, SO BE IT!
