My Avios did not post back within 48 hours as adviced, but a call to Iberia in Spain fixed it. I had to tell them that I needed the Avios for another booking with only 1 seat left though, as they initially said it was only possible during the week and I called on a Saturday.
If the Avios are needed for another booking which are immediately available, it is apparently possible to spend them straight away. Most employees will tell you it is not possible, but if required send me a message and I'll tell you the name of an employee you can ask for who allegedly can do this (week days only).
