Of course I agree with you about staying in Jing'an or Xuhui. People's Square, the Bund, and LJZ are worth a look, but lack character. As you know from the Mobike thread, I also love biking. The thing is, many tourists like to cross the river for a look see, and this is not really possible via bike. The Y2 boat is a good way to get over there (e.g. extremely cheap "river cruise").
