The LAX-HNL flight typically departs from T4 so I'm not sure why you mention T5. Double check the boarding gate on the day of departure.
Thank you so much for the reply! I actually contacted AA's twitter since my initial post, and they arranged to help my dad, but it's good to know there is an escalator.
And currently, I'm supposed to be boarding at T5 Gate 53B, but reading this thread and other sites, it seems that flights to HNL indeed mostly depart from T4... So I'm also worried about that now as well.
