If they were really chatting, it is not out-of-line with UA's official policy on FA duties then (in order of importance):
1) Making loud noise in Galley & update all FA on latest gossip
2) Establish cabin temperature suitable for FA
3) FA comfort
4) Passenger safety
5) Passenger comfort
