Apparently there has been (BA Style) feedback that people prefer to drink in the bar etc. in more social settings and don't value the free minibar. In fairness this was staying in a suite with one of the better minibars I have come across (e.g. full range of fever tree mixers and multiple spirits) and we didn't go mad either in the minibar or the lounge but were spending circa 250 euros a day by the pool.
My response was that often the club tended not to have hours that worked for me when I am working so the minibar was one of the few real benefits. I would consider Marriott style drink vouchers for the bar (which is sort of the direction I sensed but wasn't told) to be a significant step down. Although I can see an aim of trying to drive more revenue by putting customers in proximity with F&B options.
There seemed to be some move afoot to more recognition in other brands too whatever that amounts too
