I dont know reasons for the delay but EC261 if applicable is based on the full journey. So if she misses connection and is over 3 hours late at EDI then compensation is due.
As far as duty of care is concerned, she has access to refreshments in the lounge so unlikely BA woyks also pay for a meal. I would see that as somewhat unreasonable.
