Sometimes things can happen last minute - I've certainly cancelled flights after upgrades have been processed. You can trust the numbers in the app. The only time they might be off is when there are GTEs (which can happen in J).
Agreed on trusting # in the App. I had a situation in LAS roughly 6 months ago. It showed as " full" in the App, but only 23 of 24 checked-in. GA insisted that cabin was full, but after showing app data to GA, a supervisor overheard me, and all of a sudden, the opened seat actually showed up...
