Where are you seeing this in the wiki? You cannot upgrade an award ticket with a SWU. The wiki specifically states that AAdvantage free or promotion tickets are invalid for using SWUs.
Edit: I now see what you're probably referring to, no idea where that came from other that it could possibly be language carried over from complimentary domestic upgrades which can now be used on award tickets for EXPs. The above stands though.
