Going to have to be a buzzkill here and say unfortunately no he cannot - the drive-thru checkin is for Biz passengers only, status (be it VS Gold or DL DM/PM) alone does not give you entry. You'll have to go through the usual T3 entrance and check-in at the bagdrop desks, but status passengers travelling in Y/W can still proceed up the lift and then through the magic door into the private security wing.
