You're given nothing, other than a nod, and sent back downstairs.
It seems farcical, so depending on how much time I have on Monday (and how busy the flight is), I won't bother going upstairs, but will tell the x-ray person that I have.

I would advise some caution on this approach. They do scan your passport on arrival. On departure you also go through passport control. I don’t recall fully, but think they scan your passport again at this point. This is the bit I cannot fully remember, but think they check passport again at the gate(?) Is there system linked sufficiently between passports and boarding cards to only let you board if they have a record of you being in the country?
You could take the chance, but I wouldn’t.
