That is not always true. When I fly to LAS it is for at least a week (a shorter stay would not be worthwhile considering that I have to sit in airplanes for 18 hours). I used to stay at Total Rewards hotels and reached mid-level status with them.

I contacted the Trop, told them I was HHonors Diamond, and they agreed to match my Total Rewards status and give me 4 comped nights. I spent 4 nights that time at Planet Hollywood (mostly comped) and four more at the Trop. I was told by the Senior Executive Host that I worked with that my gambling would be reviewed after I left and future comps would be dependent on that.

As it turned out, although I don't consider myself to be a "whale" by any stretch of the imagination, on my following trips I was comped for all 8 nights, not charged for any meals, was upgraded to a suite (one time only) and had large baskets of goodies waiting for me in the room.

All this ended, however, when Penn National took over. I was restricted to 4 comped nights, had to pay resort fees no matter how much I gambled, and no meals would be comped.
