FWIW, in January and again last week, UA wifi purchased in-flight after signing in with my MP login details was posted to my account as "UNITED 016xxxxxxxxxx" and earned 3x points (I am assuming there is 1:1 correspondence between 3x points and things eligible for the $300 travel credit...)
