It is a fact that availability is more restricted for Avios than AM, especially longhaul premium cabins. When CX releases a F seat, it is not uncommon that it is restricted to AM, then gets released to avios a few days later if not picked. My family has both CX and BA FFPs and I see that periodically.

That is quite different from the T-5 day rule where all availability disappear on BA website. Whether calling will keep working is a question mark.

For intra-Asia flights in J, there is usually wide avios availability on CX, except on some business-heavy route at business rush-hour. Most flights have usually J availability. Of course, that is less the case when it is a KA A320 plane with only eight J seat. And awards are really cheap with avios, when under the 4 hours rule.
