I'm 30 days out from an EWR-MXP flight for my wife and myself. The reservation was made (United Economy (XN) - I class requested), and the miles were applied based upon the I class fare. There are currently 19 of 39 Polaris seats left. I am Premier Silver, and I paid for the cash portion of the reservation with a United-branded card.
1. What are my chances of getting the upgrade; and because I used miles, will I be ahead of other Premier statuses (1K, Plat, Gold)?
2. When should I expect the upgrade to clear?
3. Should I call the Premier desk and inquire, and if so when?
4. Worst case, I would like to at least get Economy Plus aisles for my wife and myself. Currently Economy Plus is approx 50% booked. I am watching that closely, as I will purchase Economy Plus upgrades if seats become limited because as Silver, I cannot select Economy Plus seats for free until check-in.
