East of Las Ramblas (which is the Gothic Quarter) is probably the best. Although, please be careful with going near Las Ramblas, especially at night. That is where people often get pickpocketed as well. Outside of there, I felt completely safe (even as a solo traveler) and never had any issues with people trying to approach me. The Liceu metro is a hotspot for pickpockets as well.
