With such a connection, most airlines won't allow you to short-check your bags, nor does it make much sense.
My thought was that on other occasions such a long layover has resulted in baggage going missing since it ends up being put off to the side somewhere. I’ve never connected through FCO before so not sure how reliable their handling is.
