No, that won't work, otherwise everyone would be doing it as a way to essentially get a few "free" miles.

When you book the off peak award, your account wound see a -22,500 for the flight then a +2,250 for the 10% rebate. In order to change this to the peak date, AA has to first redeposit the award (+22,500) and will take back the rebate (-2,250), so you'd be starting again with 28.5k.
