I'm not sure that's correct (or at least that is not my understanding of how EQDs work). My understanding is that flights marketed by oneworld partners (even if purchased on AA stock) will credit as a percentage of miles flown. By your logic, CX-marketed flights purchased on AA-stock would earn EQDs in economy, and that has not been my experience.
In any case, I think it's better to book HKG-NRT as an AA-codeshare for the higher EQMs. I have the following:
HKG-NRT AA8418 J (operated by JL)
NRT-LAX AA8408 F (operated by JL)
LAX-JFK AA0256 F
JFK-GRU AA0951 F
GRU-DFW AA0962 F
DFW-HKG AA0125 F
83,232 EQMS // 5,612 EQDs // 61,732 RDMs
Now just need to find a good N.Am.—HKG fare in CX PE. Sort of wishing I had jumped on the Black Friday sale now.
