We go to San Miguel de Allende about three times a year. With the city making the Best in World Lists (
#1 with Travel and Leisure and C.N. Traveler) lately it has become quite crowded especially on weekends and holidays.
I just got back from 2 weeks in SMA and the place was MOBBED...but not by gringos which has always been the complaint of long time non-nationals but by
Mexican tourists many of whom use to go to the States for vacation but no longer feel safe ( sound familiar?) or welcomed. They have begun to look internally for their vacation destinations.
