Actually we were not aware of the Hilton "rule" that you must use their website to book if you want your elite status recognized, as until the last year we had usually reserved either through their website, or personally by the individual hotel's staff. We are not sure why this rule makes any sense. Either your loyalty is valued every time you walk through their door, or it is not. Not about the upgrade, just about being treated differently than we would have been if we had booked via the website.

Oh, and our next stay with Hilton is next week. Will report back!
