What you can do is pay off the bill, then ask them to accelerate the points posting, before you cancel. This is of course assuming that the points you are looking to have awarded was posted to a statement that just cut.
I didn't even remember those points. Thank You! Just got Amex to accelerate the posting of points from the last statement.
