Objectively not true. The 787 gives a bit more space (in UA's case, both width and pitch), and has the newest interior amenities such as a higher cabin pressure.
I can see people drawing their line between the 10-across 777 and 787. It's more logical to draw a line there than between the 787 and A350, which have smaller differences.
