During the 24 hours when I retrieved the reservation it told me I cannot cancel online. So I'm guessing that this is exactly for this reason, so that they can manually reissue the discount code or something like that.

The 24 hours has now passed which is a non-issue as those plans are set, but I have one more discount code to use.

I'll post a follow up if I find out more when I use that one.
