I purchased a ticket over a month ago from LAX - CAN (Guangzhou) to Kathmandu. Return is Kathmandu - CAN - LAX.
I purchased the flight with a 17 hr layover, believing that I would be able to enjoy the city as a bonus and be eligible under the "Tourist Without a Visa" 72hr exempt rule, as a USA citizen.
I am now seeing on this thread title that as of the end of AUG 2017, this is no longer allowed? Can anyone verify this? When I called China Southern Airlines, they told me to call the embassy to verify but that this is only meant for certain nationalities.
I am heavily confused as there is no other literature online regarding this abrupt change.
