I've done 8am check-in at Fairmont and Club Carlson properties before, but I always had their top status.
I guess I'm "glad" I arrive HND at 0500 and depart NRT at 1700. It makes a hotel much less useful
Good idea. Yes I'm Platinum Marriott/SPG but the hotels around HND are $$$ so trying to avoid that if I can help it.
What do you plan on doing with your 12 hour layover?

The hotel in HND has day rates. You have to phone them to book a time slot as you book it for specific times, not for "the day". It should be about 60% of the nightly rate.
