I think the picketing is the Pilots trying to convince the company to do the right thing before an arbitration decision comes down. There is worry, probably on both sides, that an arbitration decision will not be what the Pilots want. One of the big topics is scope, and the company doesn't appear interested in entertaining any discussions in this regard. An arbitrator could side with the Pilots, seeing that most other airlines have some sort of scope language - or they could just as easily side with the company and decide that scope is not necessary. One interesting fact - the last time the Pilots went into binding arbitration they lost big. The industry was in a completely different state at that time. I, personally, believe that an arbitrator is going to make things good for the Pilots - but we'll all see soon enough.
